B-shift helping out a member of the community with a snake problem. With the consistent rainfall this monsoon season, the grass has grown thick and tall. This environment creates a haven for snakes, and unfortunately makes it dangerous for citizens who live near those areas. With a few diligent firefighters and lawn mower, the areas with heavy rattle snake activity was cleared out. When you're going outside, stay safe and watch your step! 🐍

Station 193 received its new and improved cascade system! A big thanks to R.L. Workman Homes providing the forklift to safely move it into place. With the new cascade system, firefighters will be able to train more often with SCBAs ensuring effectiveness under dangerous to life and health atmospheres. 🔥👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

This event symbolizes the dedication and pride we have for this community. Now recognizing our official captains; we congratulate Ron Orona, Nate Novoa, and Nick Shaffer. We thank our hard-working volunteer Tender Operators who have been working tirelessly over the many days of fire emergencies as of late. To wrap up firefighter cancer awareness month, our firefighters took a pledge to actively prevent occupational cancer and minimize the carcinogens they are exposed to. The pledge included properly decontaminating equipment, participating in annual medical exams, and even wearing sunblock on a daily basis. This is how we hold ourselves and each other accountable for a healthier future in the fire service. This pledge was supported by all firefighters, Captains, and Chief Buonaccorsi.

From 2015-2020, 75% of the fire fighters added to the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial died from occupational cancer.

In response, the IAFF has designated January as Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness month. This provides fire fighters with the tools and guidance for cancer prevention and to support fire fighters who have been diagnosed with occupational cancer. Public awareness and prevention is essential in battling occupational cancer.

Today, A-shift firefighters Ron, Anthony, and Jack went to Palominas Elementary School to teach about fire safety. Students learned about household fire hazards, smoke detectors, and safely getting out of a burning building. Students also got to spray water out of a real fire hose!

Recently, Firefighter Winkel and Firefighter Sanchez attended the Arizona Fire School, a weeklong training exercise in Phoenix. Firefighter Sanchez took a class on pumping fire engines while Firefighter Winkel learned about fire inspection and public safety. We’re excited to see the skills and knowledge these two bring back to Palominas Fire!
